Jim R. - Okaloosa County, FL

Okaloosa County will celebrate America Recycles Day at the Santa Rosa Mall Food Court in Mary Esther on November 19 from 10 am to 3 pm.  We are asking businesses and organizations that have products or services consistent with recycling, environmental conservation, or sustainability to join us on the Saturday before Black Friday to promote environmental awareness.  Booths are $50.

The event is sponsored by Okaloosa County, the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber’s Green Task Force, Cumulus Radio, and the Santa Rosa Mall.  Cumulus Radio will be on hand conducting a radio remote and aluminum cans will be collected as a fund raiser for Fisher House http://www.fisherhouse.org/.  We will also invite mall shoppers to sign an “I Recycle” pledge card and receive a free “I Recycle” ARD tote bag (see below) made from 100% PET.  Additionally, each pledge card will be entered into a drawing to receive an Earth Machine backyard composter or a SYSTERN rain barrel, each valued at over a $100.

Additionally, Okaloosa County will offer residents FREE drop-off of household hazardous waste at its HHW facility on Ready Ave in Fort Walton Beach on November 19 from 7 am – 2 pm.  Pledge cards will also be taken there and entered into the drawing.

District schools are participating in the ARD school pledge contest.
